It is your task to take an unused plot of land and turn it into a thriving garden full of pinatas. Throughout the game you will be given small objectives but the game is a total open-ended game so you are free to do as you wish and create your own goals.
If you want a successful garden you will first need to make it habitable for pinatas by setting up the grass and general landmarks all available for purchase with your in game currency which is increased when you collect foiled wrapped coins that range from bronze to gold ( Gold being the most valuable ). You can earn extra coins whilst playing by selling resources created in your garden via the pinatas you have as residents. You can also break apart pinatas and sell the candy inside of them but this not recommended as it causes potential pinatas of the same species to avoid your garden and you get a lot less than the pinata is actually worth.
When your garden first begins to grow you will only attract basic black and white pinatas of certain species but as your garden grows bigger and better you will attract residents and they will change into different color versions of their species.
Once a pinata is a resident of your garden you have the chance to customize it and give it a name, add accessories and a decorative tag. Accessories range from large teeth to hats. Be careful though if you resident pinata is broken you will lost all accessories.
If you have two pinata residents of the same species then it is entirely possible that they may mate to create a baby pinata egg. You will have to fulfill their romance requirement until you see them doing a romance dance. After this you will have to complete a minigame which starts off easy earlier on in the game but becomes more difficult as you garden gets bigger and more species are present.
Resident pinatas of your garden can change into three different colors and can also evolve into bigger pinatas at different stages on their existence. Color changing and evolution is done by meeting certain requirements and having certain garden features available to the pinatas dependant on specie.
The viva pinata donut of life is a food chain inside the game whereby some pinatas may prey on one or two other species of pinata. Arguments can break out between different pinatas especially those that are hunters of other species in your garden. Your resident pinatas will not however eat any others unless you command them to do so.
One other danger to be aware of whilst building your garden is sour pinatas. The will wander into your garden and attempt to destroy your object and eat your food amongst other things. They can also make your residents sick if not dealt with. If you have the patience and good enough garden you can win these rogue pinatas over and make them as good as your other pinatas the best thing to do however is remove them.
Whilst going through the game you will be joined by various helpers some are available to purchase only whilst others are free. These helpers will take care of certain jobs in garden that can become boring for you to do yourself and are very useful.
If you want the services of a helper you will need to pay them a one off fee.
